How To Upload EA’s to VPS using Parallels Panel

May
Following on from “How To Install An Expert Advisor” I will now explain how to get your Expert Advisor into ForexVPS, or any other VPS service which uses the parallels panel.Â
There are two ways to accomplish this. The easy-to-remember way and the not-so-easy way. I will run through both here.
First, the easy way.Â
Unzip your files as described in my previous article about how to install an Expert Advisor.
Email the files to yourself.
Login to your VPS through your desktop shortcut.
Open up Internet Explorer, log in to your email account, and download your Expert Advisor from the email message you just sent to yourself. Obviously this will only work if you have an email account which you can easily access via the internet. I like using this method since it both achieves my goal quickly and simply, and i also end up with a ‘backup’ of my Expert Advisors inside my email archives incase i ever have a major computer crash.Â
Now for the harder way, via the Parallels Panel.
Log in to your parallels panel. To do this go to:Â https://your.IP.address.here:4643/vz/cp. Where i have written “your IP address here” you need to enter in the details of the IP address provided to you in your welcome email. It will be a combination of numbers in a similar format to this:Â 12.35.221.258. If you have entered the address correctly you will get a login screen. This address is also stored in the members area of ForexVPS, once logged into the ForexVPS website you can just go to “parallels panel” to view the correct link if you are having trouble.Â
Login. Your username is always “Administrator” for ForexVPS. Ensure you use an upper case ‘A’ in ‘Administrator’. The password you should already know also.
Once you are logged in you will see an option on the top left called “file manager”. Click on it. You will see in the main window it says “C:” This is your ‘C’ drive and represents the harddrive of the VPS computer. Click on the ‘C’ to open it. Now, click “program files (x86)”. This will open up your list of programs. Find the appropriate Metatrader platform from the list. When you have found it, click it to open it and then go into your experts file.Â
When you have navigated to the correct place where you wish to place your Expert Advisor file, click on the button marked “upload files”. It will show you another screen where you can choose your files- just follow the onscreen instructions. Once you have uploaded your file you are done. If this is FAPTurbo you are uplaoding, remember to now go into the “libraries” folder and upload the ‘dll’ file also. If you need further help about exactly where you should be installing your Expert Advisor files see my article here.

Issues You May Encounter
When you enter in the web address to get to your Parallels panel you will very likely see a screen warning you that the website you are trying to access is not safe. I had a chat with my contact at ForexVPS about this and he tells me that it is because when people access their assigned IP address they are not accessing ForexVPS directly. The security certificate is specifically tied to ForexVPS and not each individual IP address, so although it is part of the same network, the security certificate is not valid for your IP address login. This is due to economic reasons – i was told it costs $1000 for a security certificate for each IP address. Obviously this is not viable for each and every customer at $35 a month!
I have been assured that the site is still secure and encrypted, just without the ‘certificate’.
This leads on to another question….
How Secure Is My VPS?
Sometimes i get emails asking me if VPS staff can access customers VPS screens and see their accounts. The answer is yes. It is possible. However, they are not allowed to do so unless permission has been granted from the customer and there is a specific problem which they are going in there to sort out. You should not worry about anyone ’stealing’ your money from your accounts since it is not possible for anyone to get your money back apart from you. Brokers will not transfer money to third parties, they will only accept transfers back to your own named accounts, and a lot of brokers go further than this and insist that the money is returned not only to you but to the very same account from which it came from originally.
Anyone who knows me will know that although i’m fairly computer literate, i am no technical expert- i trade, that is what i do. So forgive me if i have made any technical errors here. A big thanks to Paul at ForexVPS for helping me with the answers to some questions posed in this article.

What our members are saying...
After having been to some of the mentoring sessions at FAPTurbo, receiving your newsletters and visiting the web site, I had no hesitation in joining the Forex Club. I just knew it would be winner.
I greatly appreciate your values and your honest and realistic approach. You are setting up precisely what is needed for people like me who are strapped for time and yet would like to expand their knowledge and experience of EAs and have somewhere to come in order to learn, share ideas and ask questions.

You can also use a third way. Copy your files on your home computer (CTRL + v) and then open the Remote Desktop at your ForexVPS (must be full screen). Copy the files on the desktop of the VPS (CTRL + c). FCrom here you can move the files to the Expert folder.
thanks
.
There is a 4th way in case anyone wants to use it:
(a) set your VPS as an FTP server
(b) use FTP to upload the files to your VPS.
A few people prefer that way…
Hi, gr8 post thanks for posting. Information is useful!
I have been looking looking around for this kind of information. Will you post some more in future? I’ll be grateful if you will.
Another way of transferrig files from your local PC to a VPS is to login to your VPS using remote desktop connection (type mstsc into “run”), and ensure “disk drives” is checked under the Local Resources tab. When you then double-click My Computer in your VPS, you can access (and copy) on file on any drive from your local PC. Personally, I don’t do any of these methods, but instead just download the EA from the website when I am in my VPS.
It’s a pity that people don’t realize the importance of this information. Thanks for posing it.
It’s a masterpiece. I have never thought people can have such ideas and thoughts. You are great.
I personaly use ForexHoster which has a different upload process using their CP which is much less complicated than on the windows servers, actually it is just few clicks. Just my 2 cents.
To me who is not that good with pc stuff it looks a little difficult, worried to go wrong. I have read that someone can do the whole installmenton my computer for for a fee. Any experiences or thougts about this.
