| 2009 Live Results & 2010
Winners...? |
It
is the start of the New Year, and we are gearing up and getting ready
with excitement, anticipation and with a healthy dose of intrepidation
to start trading again.
Here then are all the results of all the live tests we have ever run in
2009. I have included links to the full live data where possible
for your research (links on the right>>>>).
Unfortunately this is only a very brief glance as space is limited.
For those interested in methods and ways of further analysing
results you may like to check out an article i published today here)
FAPTurbo
1 January 2009 to 1 August 2009 - Gained
315.3%, £710.97
8 September to 31 December 2009 - Gained 13.9%, £278.56
Total Gain: £989.53
Our FAPTurbo results had to be
split into two. The first part of the year was traded on our fairly
small Alpari UK account (balance at start of 2009 was £225.51).
In September we transferred over to FXCM UK, and began trading with
£2000, which is the account currently in action and the one you
see on our stats page today. Despite its great profit in 2009, it is
worth noting that nearly all of this came from the early part of the
year and that in recent times FAPTurbo performance has declined
considerably (although still making profit!)
Megadroid (&
Droid Tactics)
29 June 2009 to 31
August 2009 - Gained 60.8%, £121.52
1 September 2009 to 31 December - Gained 42.8%, £908.67
Total Gain: £1,030.19
Brilliant
Gains on Megadroid despite only being in action for half the year.
Megadroid has been very consistent with easily recoverable losses and
much smaller drawdowns (in comparison to FAPTurbo). We have used
Advanced Droid tactics settings for much of the time our account has
been in action. We did use Megadroid Pro on USDCHF and EURCHF for a
short time, although they were recently removed having lost money (i.e.
true megadroid only results would have been better).
FAPTurbo Evolution
4 June to 31 December - Lost 14.5%, $1,454.03
At one point this account was actually up by almost 80%! To lose all
that gain and then more is one huge drawdown. This account was
accidentally left open over the holiday period at the end of 2009.(see
stats link). Evolution is currently
under redevelopment by the FAPTurbo team.
Robominer
26 April to 31 May - Gained £92.25 (Alpari UK)
31 May to 6 July - Gained $44.40 (IBFX)
6 July to 31 December - Gained $9,941.96 (FXDD) (**estimated**)
It has been a year of chopping and
changing for our Robominer accounts (and indeed the 'high risk' account
from 6 July was not one of my own personal accounts but that of a
friend) so it is a little difficult to show clearly the yearly results.
The early two accounts were traded at recommended Robominer risk or
less, the last account from 6 July has been traded at very high risk
with reserve funds available. At 0.3 lots in this account our average
banked win per week was $497 (from this you can extrapolote that for
every 0.1 lots you trade you may expect a return of $165.67 per week,
or for 0.01 lots you could expect $16.57 per week, trading both
robominer pairs - note this is purely hypothetical, not a 'given' for
moving forwards, and can vary considerably from broker to broker due to
swap rates!). Two weeks of data were missing at this time so i had to
estimate the values for those two weeks, for which i substituted our
average value. All swaps were taken into account. I haven't
recorded the account balances here as money was coming and going from
the account a fair amount and it is hard to categorise correctly. I can
say that for 0.3 lots and trading both Robominer pairs, the official
recommended account size would be $105,000 (or for one pair only,
$62,500) - do take heed of these figures, we have seen a drawdown this
year on our account of up to $24,000 in floating open trades.
Going into 2010, the original FXDD account has been changed once more
over to forex.com - although the same lot sizes will be traded, 0.3
lots. I would also like to set up a parallel account which holds the
exactly correct sum of money as per recommended risk levels. Other than
that the plan is to simply leave Robominer on true set and forget form
to do it's thing.
Cyborg M5G
27 May to 2
September, Lost 25.3%, $63.13
We turned Cyborg off due to bad performance. I hear rumours that they
have better settings now so this is one i would perhaps like to revisit
in 2010 but in the meantime have been keenly watching other people's
results.
Forex Shocker
19 September to 2
December, Lost 41.2% , $76.96
Forex Shocker worked great for many months on demo, but my live account
just didn't match up to these results. This EA is very spread sensitive
and it needs a very low spread, if you have preferential spreads with a
broker it may be worth a try.
Forex Lexus
11 November to 2
December, Gained 20%, £40.31
11 December to 31
December, Lost 15.1%, £30.28
Our first account had to be closed down because the new version of
Lexus doesn't like 4 digit brokers (forex.com). We were advised to move
it to a 5 digit broker, which we did from 11 December, moving to Alpari
UK. Early days for this robot having only been on our accounts less
than 2 months.
Forex Prospector
(from Forex Goldmine, creators of Robominer)
8 September to 2
December, Lost 100%, £910.91
We were trading Forex Prospector on an account which was too small,
hence it finally blew itself up when AUDNZD moved to extremes in its
range. Although it takes different trades to Robominer, Prospector is
based on the same theory/idea of mathematically trading the range. We
decided to just eliminate this one and continue with Robominer in light
of this fact. Whereas Robominer gradually builds up on the drawdowns
over time, Prospector has a tendancy to move much faster and take you
by surprise somewhat, which i have to admit was what happened in this
case giving us no time to top up the account to the correct level to
maintain open trades. Our experience with this account is relevant to
anyone trading this robot or Robominer - and a warning about what can
happen if you don't follow recommendations (!!)
Best Live Robots for
2010 - Which bots will win this year?
We are sticking with FAPTurbo into 2010. Once trading gets settled for
January i would like to try experimenting with the other scalping pairs
again to see if this years results can mirror the great ones we
experienced in early 2009.
Robominer - my friend has moved his high risk account over to forex.com
and we will continue to follow his progress. I will set up another
account of my own on low risk so we can compare.
Megadroid - Continuing for 2010, this is actually my favourite
commercial robot right now although does need custom settings such as
droid tactics. Default megadroid settings result in very few trades.
Lexus - We will plough onwards with this one for another couple
of months and see how things are at that point. All being well this one
will make it through 2010 also. Unlike the three robots i mentioned
above, i am not as confident in this one at this stage and it is to
make a judgement.
There will of course be a lot of robots coming and going over the next
12 months, many will come through our doors for testing. Some don't
even make it onto demos (as they are scams), the majority make it to
demo but go no further. I would like to think we can add one or maybe
two new robots to our live lineup this year although time will tell.
