Auto Restart of MT4?
« on: March 04, 2011, 07:19:46 pm »
I'm running my MT4 on a VPS, and the other day when I logged on to check it I discovered that the MT4 platform had closed down for some reason (possibly crashed...I'm not sure). Is there any way to have the MT4 platform automatically restart if it accidentally closes down? Or am I just screwed if this happens when I'm not around? Thanks.

Roger

On every version of windos there is a program in the Accessory Folder called Task Scheduler, just schedule to start MT4 ever y hour or 15 min. if MT4 is running the only thin that will happen is that the focus will go to that screen if the app had crashed will open again.
But the cause of you problem may not be a crashing app, but a server restart ( your VPS provider reboots your server one a month to applied patches) or you have log in to another account, you need to always log into the CONSOLE account.
Please check Task Manager a count how many TERMINAL.EXE you have running if you have more TERMINAL.EXE running than open MT4 you have a problem, you may have many instances running ( is like many people log into your VPS account but is just really you ), restart the VPS and log in on the CONSOLE account.

AlwaysUp

Hi, thanks for the great app !  ;)
I had a problem to show MetaTrader's windows and tray icons,

you will have to choose Application > Start "MetaTrader" in this Session to show MetaTrader's windows and tray icons.

you have a tuto here and it's working fine for MT4:

Sounds interesting.

looks similar to "Autoboot".

@JJ-FX:   So after restarting the server i guess the Application will start every MT4 through the Session Zero right?  Same like Autoboot.
               x86 or x64 Application?

?

thx

Max

AlwaysUp is a 32-bit application but can be run on 64-bit systems as well. It starts MT4 in session zero.

I had a problem to show MetaTrader's windows and tray icons,

you will have to choose Application > Start "MetaTrader" in this Session to show MetaTrader's windows and tray icons.

That happens only on Win 2008 servers because you can't logon to session zero.

This sounds great! Sometimes I find that Metatrader just stops ie the Market Watch time is at a standstill and there is no action on the charts. I just shut MT4 and re-open and all is well. Will Always Up pick this up and restart automatically
Cheers

You can set AlwaysUp to restart applications if they hang for more than x minutes or use up more than xx memory or just every xx hours.

Hi

I've recently started a trial licence of AlwaysUp and it seems to work ok with MT4 except that I keep getting a message saying -

"A program can't display a message on your desktop"

Thats just with one instance of MT4, should I just ignore this?

@traders578:

Please don't forget that you have not such a deep support behind a "free" Application ;).

Hey we are talking about an Application which costs not really much 49.99$.

That's really not such much money that force me playing around with freeware tools ;)

be carefully with such ones.

best regards

Max

Windows server 2008 I assume? See question 13. You should check this message, because it might be an error message displayed by an EA on this MT4.
